Let’s be honest, the Macy’s Day Parade isn’t the coolest of traditions.
Sure it’s something corny and sweet to watch while you’re cooking up a storm for your hungry loved ones, but many of the acts that make their way through Harold Square are aimed at generations too young or too old for most of us.
And sometimes, well, they just miss the mark completely.
Example A: Jimmy Fallon sang the late, great Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” this Thanksgiving morning.
We’re sure that Fallon and the wonderful Roots meant the song as another loving tribute to the legendary artist.
But many weren’t really feeling Fallon stepping into Prince’s purple shoes. Some would have rather The Roots get the stage to themselves. Some found it musically offensive. Some found it downright problematic.
Describe 2017 in a single quote. I’ll start:
“And now here’s Jimmy Fallon singing a cover of Prince’s ‘Let’s Go Crazy.’ “

Jimmy Fallon performing Prince in a jokey way is all kinds of wrong.

Exec 1: “Hey, we got The Roots to perform a Prince song at the #MacysParade!”
Exec 2: “Cool … but what if we had Jimmy Fallon sing vocals?”

As I watch Jimmy Fallon ruin “Let’s Go Crazy,” I’m thankful that Prince isn’t alive to see this.

JIMMY FUCKING FALLON IS COVERING A PRINCE SONG AT THE PARADE. FUCK THIS HIDEOUS TIMELINE.

Jimmy Fallon singing Prince has convinced me that we all died last November and I was sent to that special place in Hell.

But don’t worry, Fallon had a great time. Because that’s what it’s all about, right?
Try to have a Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
